Future Meetings

Jan. 27, 2016

The Energy Policy Council will meet at 10 a.m. on Jan. 27, 2016 at the Talley Student Center on the N.C. State campus, located at 2610 Cates Ave. in Raleigh.

The EPC subcommittee on Long-Range Energy Generation Planning and Renewable Energy will meet at 3 p.m. on Jan. 14, 2016 in room 4001 of the Green Square Building, located at 217 W. Jones St. in Raleigh.

The EPC subcommittee on Emergency Energy will hold a conference call at 9 a.m. on Jan. 15, 2016. Members of the public can listen to the call in room 3001 of the Green Square Building, located at 217 W. Jones St. in Raleigh.

The EPC subcommittee on Energy Efficiency will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Jan. 15 in room 4001 of the Green Square Building, located at 217 W. Jones St. in Raleigh.

May 20, 2015

The North Carolina Energy Policy Council met at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 to discuss nuclear and renewable energy.  The EPC approved the first nuclear energy generation recommendation from the Long Range Energy Generation and Renewables committee. The other recommendations (here and here) were returned to the Long Range Energy Generation and Renewables committee for further study in light of issues and recommendations brought up by members of the EPC.

March 25, 2015

The Energy Efficiency Committee held a working meeting to discuss energy efficiency initiatives on Wednesday, March 25 in Raleigh. Click here for the meeting notice.

The Energy Policy Council chairman, Lt. Governor Dan Forest, submitted comments on behalf of the Energy Policy Council to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) on the Draft Proposed Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) Oil and Gas Leasing Program for 2017-2022 (DPP). The DPP provides the basis for gathering information and conducting analyses to inform the Secretary of the Interior on which areas to include for further leasing consideration in the 2017-2022 Program. The Energy Policy Council approved the letter at its March 25, 2015 meeting. View the comments submitted by Chairman Lt. Governor Dan Forest here.


The Energy Policy Council voted to support the Atlantic Coast Pipeline project that proposes to directly link North Carolina to the abundant source of natural gas in Marcellus and Utica shale basins of West Virginia. The Energy Policy Council believes that access to new gas markets would assure that North Carolina’s homes and businesses have clean, reliable and reasonably priced energy in the coming years and help the state’s economy continue to grow. The Long Range Energy Generation and Renewable Eenrgy Committee met at the UNC Charlotte Energy Production and Infrastructure Center to discuss policy recommendations for the Energy Policy Council to consider in 2015.

Oct. 28, 2014

The Emergency Energy Committee met to discuss: prevention and effective response in the event of a potential terrorist attack on North Carolina's energy infrastructure; fuel availability during energy disruptions; and North Carolina's Emergency Energy Plan. Nelson Peeler, VP of Transmission System Operations at Duke Energy, gave a presentation on Duke Energy's grid security and emergency energy response.
